This autumn, the West German Center for Diabetes and Health Care received two important awards at once. Firstly, the project “TeDia – treatment of diabetes with the help of telemedicine”, which has been launched at the center since 2011, received a special prize from the Ministry of Health of the region. Minister Karl-Josef Laumann praised the success of the digitalization center.

Center manager prof. Stefan Martin says: “Already in 2014, we introduced an electronic patient record in TeDia, and now it is an integral part of the interdisciplinary management of patients with diabetes in all clinics of the association. Especially now, during the pandemic, such monitoring systems are of particular importance – they contribute to a more effective filtering of patients with diabetes or kidney failure and thus the optimal organization of their treatment in the event of a hospital stay.”

Besides, prof. Stefan Martin, head of the center, was once again the winner of the Glucohead 2020 award for innovative solutions in the treatment of diabetes.

Thus, the center has been practicing remote supervision of patients for many years, including those from other countries. Patients receive special telemedicine devices that measure certain patient data every day and remotely transmit them for analysis to the West German Center for Health and Diabetes. Based on these data, doctors send him recommendations and make adjustments to his treatment program, including the dosage of insulin at home.

Detailed information about participation in the program can be obtained from our international department.

It is worth noting that the West German Center for Diabetes and Health Care has already been repeatedly awarded the certificate of the German Diabetes Society for exemplary patient care.
