Symptoms

People with tongue cancer most often complain of having a foreign body sensation in their mouth or throat. Signs of the disease may be pain that occurs during eating and drinking, which often radiates to the ear area.

If there are metastases in the lymph nodes, they are usually palpated in the submandibular region or in the neck. In the event that a feeling of a foreign body appears in the mouth or throat, or pain occurs while eating or drinking, which is given to the ear, it is necessary to consult a dentist or an ENT doctor. In addition, mild pain in the cervical lymph nodes can be signs of cancer.

Causes

The causes of tongue cancer are not yet fully understood. However, some outside influences have been proven to be of great importance. First of all, tobacco use in the form of pipe smoking should be included here. If the abuse of alcoholic beverages is added to this, the harmful effect is even more intensified.

Also, chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the tongue, which can be caused, for example, by ill-fitting dentures, is one of the causes of this particular cancer. Poor oral hygiene further contributes to the occurrence of cancer.
