Comprehensive treatment of all types of oncology

Diagnosis and therapy of all types of oncological diseases is a priority in the clinical complex of FCCD. All specialized departments of the clinics work on an interdisciplinary basis, thereby providing an integrated approach to the treatment of oncological diseases. Regular oncology consultations allow us to discuss each individual case and develop individual, most effective treatment regimens.

In the Clinic of Oncology, Hematology and Palliative Medicine, under the leadership of Professor A. Giagounidis, not only autologous stem cell transplantation is carried out, but also all diseases of the hematopoietic system are treated at the highest level. The clinic is rightfully proud of its own medical laboratory, which provides hematological studies necessary for accurate diagnosis and monitoring of the patient’s condition. The clinic is currently conducting 28 clinical studies to develop new drugs and vaccines for cancer. Due to this, the patients of the clinic are the first in Germany to have the opportunity to use the latest medicines.

If radiation therapy is necessary, patients are immediately sent to the radiation oncology clinic under the guidance of Prof. A. Hartmann, the clinic has three linear accelerators and other high-tech equipment at its disposal.

Surgery

Another priority area of the FCCD clinical complex is abdominal surgery, including oncological and minimally invasive surgery, hernia surgery and coloproctology. The clinics of the complex use advanced minimally invasive methods to treat cancer of the stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas, as well as for the surgical treatment of metastases and complex operations to remove hernias. The Da Vinci operating system is one of the most modern systems for performing robotic operations, the head of the surgery clinic, prof. K. Tsarras currently performs more than 90 percent of all surgical interventions using it. It is also important to note that the Hernia Treatment Center under his leadership is the only certified expert center in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Vascular Surgery

The vascular surgery clinic of the FCKD clinical complex should also be highlighted. The main specialization of the clinic is the treatment of life-threatening aneurysms of the aorta and large arteries in the chest and abdomen. Head of the clinic prof. Botsios, one of the few specialists in Europe, performs unique aortic bypass operations using the laparoscopic method, that is, through small incisions in the abdomen.

Gastroenterology

Of particular importance to the clinical complex of FCCD is the early diagnosis of pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract and other internal organs. Every week, more than 250 patients undergo endoscopic diagnostics at the Gastroenterology Clinic under the direction of Dr. K. Weik and, if necessary, immediately receive the necessary therapy.
